چکیده

background: osteoporosis, or porous bone, is a disease characterized by low bone mass density (bmd) and structural deterioration of bone tissue, leading to bone fragility and increased risk of hip, spine, and wrist fractures. there are numerous risk factors for osteoporosis. while many of these factors are non-genetic in nature, there is a definite genetic component responsible for this condition. the main aim of this study was to evaluate the association between vdr (vitamin d receptor gene) polymorphisms (fok1) a>g (rs2228570) and bone mineral density in an iranian defined population.   methods : the study participants comprised of 1032 iranians recruited from the city of sanandaj during imos (iranian multi center osteoporosis study). bone mineral density measurement was performed in all the participants with and without osteoporosis. all samples were genotyped for vdr genes (fok1) polymorphism with polymerase chain reaction, using a predesigned taqman allele discrimination assay.   results : there was a significant association between fok1 polymorphism and osteoporosis in post-menopausal women, 0.138(0.025-0.768).   conclusion : it seems that cohort studies, which are more powerful than case-control studies, can be useful in evaluating the roles of genetic variants as risk or protective factors for osteoporosis.

P-245: Vitamin D Receptor FOKI and BSMI Polymorphisms in Women with Recurrent Abortions in Iranian Population

Background: Recurrent spontaneous abortion (RSA) is a frequent reproductive problem, with three or more abortions affecting 1 to 2%, two or more abortions affecting up to 5% of women of reproductive age. Some polymorphisms are supposed to be etiology in this group.Vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene polymorphism seems to be a good ones to be searched due to their function on placenta. Materials and M...

Is there any association between a vitamin D receptor gene polymorphism (FokI) and pemphigus vulgaris?

Background: Pemphigus vulgaris (PV) is an autoimmune bullous disease of the skin and mucous membranes caused by activation and proliferation of T cells, production of Th2 cytokine profile and pathogenic antibodies. Vitamin D is a probable immunodeviator to Th2, which its actions are mediated through the vitamin D receptor (VDR). FokI is the only single nucleot...

Association between Thrombophilic Gene Polymor-phisms and Recurrent Pregnancy Loss in Iranian Women

Background: Recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) is a common problem among couples, and acquired thrombophilia is the well-known etiology of RPL. The aim of this study was to establish the association between inherited thrombophilic gene polymorphisms and RPL. Methods: This case-control study was conducted on 50 women with unexplained RPL and 50 parous women with no history of miscarriage (age range...

Vitamin D Receptor Gene Expression and Function in a South African Population: Ethnicity, Vitamin D and FokI

Polymorphisms of the vitamin D receptor gene (VDR) have been associated inconsistently with various diseases, across populations of diverse origin. The T(f) allele of the functional SNP FokI, in exon 2 of VDR, results in a longer vitamin D receptor protein (VDR) isoform, proposed to be less active. Genetic association of VDR with disease is likely confounded by ethnicity and environmental facto...
